The 2nd and final day of the 11th annual Loud ‘n’ Dirty Brand Fall Nationals at the Brockville Ontario Speedway was memorable. Perfect track conditions and great weather made for some great racing all day long and with $10,000 on the line for the DirtCar 358 Modified Series, it made for an exciting finish.

Defending race winner and reigning Billy Whittaker Cars 200 champion Mat Williamson took the lead at the drop of the green flag over David Hebert Mario Clair Tim Fuller and Tristan Draper. All drivers were fast in the early laps and started to make their way to the top side of the speedway as the top 6 began to drive away from a quality field. Brianna Ladouceur slid off the top side of turn 4 on lap 9 and the yellow flew for the first time. On the restart Williamson did not get the jump he wanted which allowed David Hebert to take over the top spot over Williamson, Clair, Fuller and 2019 DirtCar 358 Modified Series Champion Erick Rudolph. The track began to change rather quickly and drivers went from flying around the outside lane to charging around the bottom side all around the speedway. This made passing tough and forced drivers to make big moves on restarts in order to gain positions. On lap 50 Hebert still held a slight lead over Mat Williamson as Tim Fuller made his way to the top 3 for the first time as Ryan Arbuthnot and Michael Maresca completed the top 5. On lap 69 Brian McDonald who was making a charge to the front from 31st starting spot in the Mike LaSalle tribute machine, slowed to a crawling pace on the back stretch ending what was looking to be a great finish. The green flew and despite Williamson’s efforts to regain the lead David Hebert was able to stand his ground and drive away as behind the top two Michael Maresca was able to take over position number three and tried at will to chase down the top two drivers. As the laps wound down traffic became a big issue with a narrow groove and Michael Maresca took advantage as he took over the 2nd spot on lap 104 and drove the hardest he’s ever driven to catch David Hebert. On the final lap Maresca would get to within a car length but that was about it as David Hebert would take his 8th career DirtCar 358 Modified Series win and $10,000 back to St. Damase Quebec. Maresca finished up 2nd with Mat Williamson taking his 2nd top three effort of the weekend, Ryan Arbuthnot held on for fourth which was plenty to claim the Ogilvie’s Auto and Fleet 358 Modified Series title while Erick Rudolph claimed the number five spot and his third DirtCar 358 Modified Series title.

It was a family affair in the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprint 25 lap feature event as Steve and Jordan Poirier started on the front row and put on a show for the fans as they drove away from the field in the early laps over Jason Barney, Matt Tanner and Tyler Cartier. With drivers running the very bottom of the track Steve Poirier relied on his experience to hold off his determined nephew Jordan as the quickly closed in on lapped traffic as the field clicked off 12 laps in a big hurry. In traffic is where it got exciting for the fans as Steve drifted wide allowing Jordan to briefly taking the top spot on lap 13 with Jason Barney starting to make his way into the mix as well. Steve would eventually retake the lead one lap later as the top 3 cleared traffic. On lap 15 Roger Levesque flipped his car in turn three bringing out the red flag. Roger was able to climb out unhurt in the accident. On the restart Steve Poirier would use the bottom to grab the lead but Matt Tanner would show his muscle as he took over 2nd and tried his best to run down the leader. Over the final laps Steve Poirier finally put it all together and would charge to his 4th Empire Super Sprint victory at Brockville and to his relief, his first Empire Super Sprint win of 2019. Matt Tanner would take his 7th runner up finish of the year while Jordan Poirier, Jason Barney and Denny Peebles completed the top 5.

To finish out the 2019 a good old fashioned 30 lap $500 to win Street Stock invitational took to the speedway as a record 36 cars started the even. Brighton regulars Justin Ramsey and Adam Wells were the class of the field early on as Ramsey had the better of the two cars pulling away to a big lead as Jeff Humphrey, Brockville regular Nick Gauvreau and Austin Reid filled out the top 5 drivers. The opening lap did not work out very good for Adam Turner and Dave Barrett as they hooked together on the front stretch causing Turner to tip onto his side. Both cars were unable to continue, Turner was able to walk away from the crash uninjured. When the laps clicked off it appear Ramsey and Wells were going to run away and settle it amongst themselves. On lap 24 however that would all change as a lapped car spun in turn 3 in front of Ramsey who made heavy contact and collected Adam Wells in the process. This left Jeff Humphrey in the lead with Nick Gauvreau Austin Reid Wade Purchase and Kyle Massey as the top 5 but the action was not over. As the green flew Gauvreau and Humphrey were all over each other while defending race winner Wade Purchase and Austin Reid were also in a close battle, maybe too close. On the back stretch with two laps to go both drivers made contact causing Reid’s tire to go flat which ended a great drive. On the final restart Jeff Humphrey would drive a perfect lap and would hold on to not only claim his first Fall Nationals win, but his first ever Street Stock victory. Nick Gauvreau would claim 2nd while defending race winner Wade Purchase would round out the podium.

The 11th annual Loud ‘n’ Dirty Brand Fall Nationals took center stage at the Brockville Ontario Speedway Friday night and despite cool temperatures for night number one the racing made up for it as drivers up on the wheel, on a fast race track.

Jack Lehener took advantage of his pole starting spot at the start of the Big Block Modified Super DirtCar Series 100 lap contest with Billy Decker, and Larry Wight giving chase early on. On lap 3 Luke Whitteker broke the front end on his car and was unable to steer it on the back stretch as Brian McDonald was collected in the process. Both drivers went to the pits done for the night. When the green flew Lehner again fended off challenges from Billy Decker and Larry Wight as he held the lead and began to drive away from the field. Behind Decker and Wight, 4th place Demetrios Drellos was in a battle with two time Fall Nationals Super DirtCar Series winner Danny Johnson. The Doctor would make his way by and make a charge for the top 3. On lap 24 Billy Decker saw a great run go away as a suspension part broke on the right rear. He would head pit side and make repairs but had a long way to go to make it to the front. The story of the night however was Jack Lehner as he continued to fight off repeated challenges from Larry Wight with Danny Johnson, Matt Sheppard and Demetrios Drellos completing the top 5. On lap 34 a scary moment saw Erick Rudolph jump the cushion in turn one causing him to flip several times. Rudolph would climb out under his own power and would be ok. On the restart Lehner again would hold a strong lead over Wight, Sheppard, Michael Maresca and Danny Johnson. As the laps clicked off Lehner began to get faster and tried to pull away but the yellow flew on lap 46 for Michael Maresca as he broke while running 4th. Lehner would take the lead once again but Matt Sheppard was on the charge and searching for the lead on a super fast race track. On lap 76 Super Matt wasted no time taking the lead and began to author a dominating performance. As the laps clicked off Sheppard extended his lead to over a straight away as Larry Wight, Mat Williamson, Jack Lehner and Ryan Godown completed the top 5. After many tough nights and second place finishes Matt Sheppard would check Brockville off the bucket list as he claimed his 9th Super DirtCar Series win of the year and 1st at Brockville. Larry Wight would hold on to 2nd with Billy Whittaker Cars 200 champion Mat Williamson 3rd, Billy Decker charged from the back to 4th while Jack Lehner scored a best ever series finish of 5th.

The DirtCar Sportsman Series was set to go for 50 laps and Kevin Root and Kyle Inman were looking to settle a series title. Brad Rouse would lead the stout field early on over Kevin Root, Jackson Gill, Kyle Inman and Brianna Ladouceur. Through the opening laps it was a spirited battle between both Rouse and Root as they traded the lead several times in the opening 15 laps. Root would hold the lead on lap 19 and the top two would battle side by side. On lap 34 the yellow would fly for Thomas Cook as he experienced problems in turns 1 and 2. On the restart it was still Root and Rouse continuing their great battle as behind them Jackson Gill Matt Janczuk and Brianna Ladouceur along with Johnathon Ferguson continued a spirited battle for position with Ferguson making his way to the top 5 with a fast race car. Ferguson continued his march to the front as he started to pick of some quality cars getting by Ladouceur and Janczuk to move into the top three but still had to run down Root and Rouse as they continued to battle for the lead. On a lap 43 restart Johnathon Ferguson got what he wanted as he charged by both Brad Rouse and Kevin Root to take over the lead and begin to run away and hide. Over the finals laps it was no contest as Johnathon Ferguson would claim his third career DirtCar Sportsman Series win, 5th of the year at Brockville and the Ogilvie’s Auto and Fleet Sportsman Triple Crown Championship in the process. Brad Rouse would cross in 2nd over Kevin Root who’s third place effort was more than enough to lock up his 2nd straight title with Matt Janczuk coming from the last chance showdown to finish while Brianna Ladouceur would round out the top 5.

The 30 lap DirtCar Pro Stock Series race saw a battle for the lead between two former Street Stock Champions at Brockville. Five Time track champion Kevin Fetterly Jr. and Two time champion Tyler Bushey would lead the way and have a great battle in the opening laps with Stephane Lebrun, Bruno Richard and points leader CD Beauchamp completing the top 5. Fetterly and Bushey were the dominant drivers but a mistake in turn two on lap 14 saw Fetterly slip off the top side of turn two allowing Tyler Bushey to grab the lead and the yellow flag flew. On the restart Tyler Bushey was able to fend off challenges from Stephane Lebrun with Eric Jean Louis, Jay Corbin and Marc Lalonde rounding out the top 5. Bushey has only made a handful of starts in a Pro Stock but looked like a seasoned veteran as he pulled away to a half straight away lead as Stephane Lebrun tried his best to hold back Jay Corbin as they battled for the number two spot with Lalonde and Eric Jean Louis completing the top 5. After several wins in Street Stock, Tyler Bushey would dominate the final laps to score what he said in victory lane as the biggest win of his career with his first DirtCar Pro stock Series win in just his 2nd ever start on the tour. Stephane Lebrun would cross in 2nd with Jay Corbin, Marc Lalonde and Eric Jean Louis completing the top 5. CD Beauchamp’s 6th place run was good enough to secure his first DirtCar Pro Stock Series championship.

The 30 lap Mini Stock Invitational saw a great battle in the opening laps and Dustin Bode led early on over Danic Sylvestre, Alexis Charbonneau, Yanik Potvin and James Clarke giving chase. Sylvestre had a great car in the opening laps and was looking like the clear favorite but mechanical issues would side line him and end his great drive. On the restart Alexis Charbonneau would take the lead with James Clarke, Jamie Larocque, Jared Galway and Marc Dagenais making up the top 5. Charbonneau had a fast car as the top 5 battled hard in the closing laps. On lap 28 a scary moment occurred in turn 4 as opening night winner Jared Galway would take a violent flip in turn 4 while running in the top 5. The race was red flagged and deemed official giving Alexis Charbonneau his first Brockville win and first at the Fall Nationals. James Clarke, Jamie Larocque, Marc Dagenais and Adam Feiler would complete the top 5. Galway was alert and talking to medical officials following the accident. He would be taken to local hospital for further evaluation.

Michael Maresca Dominates Brockville 358 Modified Field on Champions and Hall of Fame Night at Brockville

It was a memorable night at the Brockville Ontario Speedway this past Saturday night as two legends at “The BOS” were honored in the 2019 Brockville Ontario Speedway Hall of Fame. Dubbed the “Joyceville Jet” Rick Wilson thrilled crowds for years at Brockville with his hard charging style which won him countless features in the 358 Modified ranks for many seasons. To this day Rick continues to win race at Brockville having won a 360 Sprint car show two years ago. The longtime veteran was not able to be in attendance due to a racing commitment but spoke via phone to the massive crowd on hand and said that fans keep the sport going and without them we wouldn’t be able to do this and the hall of fame would not be possible. Rick claimed the 1996 358 Modified title, his only championship at the speedway. Wilson also held the title as “The King” at Autodrome Edelweiss where he was also the winningest driver and champion at the speedway.

The second inductee was Kingston Ontario’s Danny O’Brien who literally dominated the 358 Modified ranks since the track re-opened in 1993. After helping his hall of fame father Pat Sr. and hall of fame brother Pat Jr. on their race cars Danny began his career in 1987 in the modified ranks and “The Pocket Rocket” never looked back. He would win countless features at Brockville including several triumphs in the DirtCar 358 Modified Series but says the saying a certain win was the biggest is hard to say because they all mean so much. A terrifying wreck in 1996 at Can Am still did not slow down his desire to win as he would claim several more wins and titles before claiming his final track championship in the 2018 season. That year after 32 years he announced his retirement at the Fall Nationals to a standing ovation. His numbers include 192 DirtCar Modified wins, 181 of them on the 358 Modified side which is third all time on the current list along with 14 Brockville titles in a 27-year span. Danny continues to be heavily involved as car owner to younger brother Tim, in the 358 Modified ranks at Brockville.

With nothing but a feature win on the line in the 1000 Islands RV 358 Modifieds Corbin Millar would race out to the early lead in the event with Tristan Draper, Ryan Arbuthnot Michael Maresca and Aaron Pugh giving chase. On lap 5 Aaron Pugh would slide off the top side of turn four and the yellow would fly. On the restart the fans on 1000 Islands Toyota night got to know how good Michael Mareasca is. He would restart 4th and make a big move by Tristan Draper and 2019 track champion Ryan Arbuthnot to go to 2nd. Off turn 4 heading to the line Maresca would use the bottom lane and take over the lead and author a dominant performance like no other. Building up nearly a half track lead Maresca was running through traffic and setting a torrid pace that 2nd place Ryan Arbuthnot was trying to keep up with but with little success. With 10 laps remaining Maresca was literally on auto-pilot as he began lapping into the top 10 which included early race leader Corbin Millar with Arbuthnot, Tim O’Brien, Chris Herbison and Kyle Dingwall giving chase. After running through the field at Mohawk in a 50 lapper a night earlier, Michael Maresca would dominate the field for his first Brockvile 358 Modified win. Ryan Arbuthnot would close out his championship season with a 2nd place finish. Tim O’Brien, Chris Herbison and Kyle Dingwall would complete the top 5.

Thee Sportsman ranks saw a 13-point advantage for Ryan Scott over Johnathon Ferguson after the qualifying heats and Scott knew all he had to have was a solid day. Ferguson was on a mission to win. Melissa Gifford would be the early pace setter in the 25-lap event over Devin Willis, Xavier Perrin, Dan Ferguson and Tyler Reynolds. Willis would put pressure on Gifford for the lead and take over the top spot on lap 8 with Dan Ferguson also charging by to pick up the number two spot. By the halfway point Willis was in control but Dan Ferguson was on the move. Ferguson would move by Willis and was looking to bag win number two of the season. A caution would fly that would be a key restart for Johnathon Ferguson and cause a bit of stress for Ryan Scott.  On the restart Dan Ferguson remained in control but Johnathon Ferguson would come from 8th to third with some bold moves in traffic and was on his way to the lead. On lap 18 it was a Ferguson battle at the front for the top spot (no relation by the way) with Johnathon getting the leap on lap 19 as Ryan Scott was stuck in 6th leaving him one point behind in the title chase. As Johnathon Ferguson pulled away the battle was on for 2nd as Dan Ferguson and Devin Willis were at it with Xavier Perrin and Tyler Reynolds battling for 4th and 5th. Ryan Scott was still stuck in 6th and needed to pick up one more spot. With 4 to go that would happen as Xavier Perrin would shred a right rear tire and see his best finish of the season go away allowing Ryan Scott to move into 5th. He may have come up one point short of a title but it was Johnathon Ferguson’s night as he scored his 4th win of the year with Devin Willis edging out Dan Ferguson for 2nd while Tyler Reynolds claimed 4th and Ryan Scott would hold on for a 5th place effort and a 2nd straight Brockville championship.

The Draper Doors Rookie Sportsman had three drivers in line with Evan Reynolds and Tyler Stewart close for the track title and Terry McClelland, who had a mathematical shot as well. In the opening laps of the 15-lap event Kalen Draper was only worried about winning the race as he led early on over Domonick Merkley and Dylan Kirkland. The top three were holding their own up front as behind them the top two in the points Stewart and Reynolds continued their battle for 4th and 5th. On lap 6 Terry McClelland saw his chance at the title begin to slip away as he spun in turn two. He would end his night with a 7th place finish. On the restart Kalen Draper was not phased by anything as he charged to a commanding lead over the remaining laps. Despite a late charge by two-time winner Dylan Kirkland, it was Draper who would march on to score his 2nd win of 2019 with Kirkland a solid 2nd, Domonick Merkley, Tyler Stewart and Evan Reynolds would complete the top 5. Evan Reynolds 5th place effort was plenty good to lock up the championship.

The Street Stock title was already decided as Michael Dillon was the man in charge, locking up the title a week earlier off the strength of 4 feature wins. Kyle Massey was the driver in charge in the early laps but the pressure was on a Dillon and Tyler Bushey were right there on his back bumper. On lap 6 it was Michael Dillon to the top of the leader board over Massey and Bushey. The lead however was short lived as Dillon ran into front end issues on his car slowing in turn 4 and thee yellow flew. When the green flew Tyler Bushey would take over the lead from Kyle Massey as Bruno Richard would move into the picture as he charged to 2nd. Over the final laps, the two-time track champion would pull away from a quality field to record his third win of the season at Brockville. Bruno Richard claimed another runner up finish with Steve Brady coming home third over Keith Riddell and Jessica Pasinetti.

The Mini Stock title was down to two of the most consistent drivers all season as Andrew Leroux held a slim 11-point lead over Jared Galway in the fight for the championship. After several early race cautions it was new comer Hayden Brown jumping to the top spot with title contenders Andrew Leroux and Jared Galway completing the top 3. Brown had the fastest car on the race track and was not worried about any points, just trying to get back to back feature wins. As the laps wound down veteran Marc Dagenais, a three-time winner in 2019 was charging to the front as he took 2nd from Leroux but still had work to do to catch Brown. Over the final laps Hayden Brown would prove to be too much for the field as he stormed to his 2nd straight Mini Stock win. Marc Dagenais would close out the year with a 2nd place run with Andrew Leroux coming home third which was good enough to secure the title with Tyson Slinger and Justin Jodin rounding out the top five as title contender Jared Galway would cross in 6th.

The regular season is complete and champions are crowned for 2019. The BOS will be back in two weeks-time with the Rycon Electrical Fall Karting Championship on September 14th plus the Monster Enduro on Sunday September 15th. Both are afternoon events. 1000 Islands RV 358 Modified (30 laps)
